Vandals facing litter picking payback over fencing damage
VANDALS who damaged fences around the skate park in Sleaford are being forced to pick up litter on the Recreation Ground as punishment.
The culprits who were identified by Police on CCTV cameras will be made to wear hi-viz vests stating why they are there.
Temporary fencing which had been put up around the skate park while general repairs were carried out was said to be completely trashed by the vandals earlier this month.
At a meeting of the Services Committee on Wednesday, September 18, Cllr Garry Titmus praised a letter from one of the vandals' parents, printed in last week's Sleaford Target, which says he has learned his lesson.

The letter says: "He (my son) is not a yob or vandal, but got caught up in something stupid.
"I am very glad that the area is covered by CCTV. The police officer has been very firm and fair. His share of the cost to the council will certainly be paid by my son, not out of his savings, but from credits he has to earn doing extra jobs at home and for neighbours and I hope he will also be asked to partake in whatever restorative justice exercise deemed suitable. A litter pick on the Rec seems ideal.
"He's been honest and disappointed about the incident and we trust he has learnt a valuable life lesson. We hope this will be his last negative brush with the Police."
Cllr Titmus said at the meeting: "I was totally heartened by that letter and I am delighted that the action against the people involved is so helpful. We can learn lessons from that."
Services Supervisor Steve Beane said that the parents of those involved had been very supportive of the action taken by police.
Cllr Brian Watson added that he thought the letter was very impressive.
