Two new bridges, walkways and cyclepaths could all feature in a new-look Brayford Pool area in Lincoln city centre.

The Brayford Trust has developed a vision for one of the city’s most historic and tourism friendly spots.

A sketch which gives an idea of where we think the bridges might be.

It is now asking for people’s views on the plans.

The main ideas include two new bridges, suitable for pedestrians and cyclists, connected with walkways around the northern, eastern and southern sides of the pool and linking with the proposed railway bridge on Brayford Wharf East.

A statement by Brayford Trust said: “Brayford Pool is a fundamental part of historic Lincoln, both as a destination and as a connection between the city centre and the adjacent areas of Boultham and Carholme.

“We believe that better connection of the different areas around Brayford Pool would help make central Lincoln a better place to walk and cycle through and in which to live, work and study.”

“Once again the needs of visiting boaters (particularly on narrowboats) have been ignored. What a wasted opportunity.

Lincoln has a waterside most other towns and cities would give their eye teeth for and yet decent moorings are conspicuous by their absence.

Lincoln, and Brayford Trust in particular, should be ashamed of their continued neglecting of visitors who come by boat to a beautiful city.”

“I think this is just another way to speed the uni students into the Brayford area so they can get to the bars faster.”

“At the western end lose the steep steps down into the uni area from Brayford Way and somehow replace them with a more suitable ramp. At the northern end somehow replace the steps from Wigford Way next to the Royal William, again with a ramp of some sort. The bridges are there already!

As for putting in bridges and footpaths suitable for cyclists, we all know that there will be some that use it as a racetrack and sod the pedstrians. It will be worse than the pedestrianised area of the High Street because they are being told it's alright to cycle here. If a P.C.S.O. is in the area and tells them to slow down (on the High Street to get off) they just go a few yards and then give the finger.

Its not the first time footbridges etc have been proposed and we've yet to see anything done. I suggest the brayford trust find a better way to spend money!”

“The bridge over main part of the Brayford near the Barge restaurant would be handy for students. It would save about 10 minutes off of a walk to uni from Brayford Quays (or more likely, speaking as a former student, from the pubs on the waterfront).

I really don't see the need for this other bridge near the current "where are you going / Where have you been" bridge. Surely that isn't needed.”
