I READ with horror (January 25) your story about a pack of hounds chasing after two foxes, going through a back garden in Coleby and frightening some little children who were happily playing games.

If I had been the parents of the distressed children, I would have soon gone to see the main honcho at the Blankney Hunt.

It's all right that Margaret Morris, a master of the hunt, has since apologised but that is not the issue here as the baying pack of hounds could easily have turned on the poor little children and rendered them serious physical and mental harm for life.

I do realise that some Hooray Henry will read this and state that I have no knowledge of the countryside, etc.

But my grandad was a gamekeeper for most of his working life so I have plenty of inside knowledge of what happens, having helped beat the bush to scare all the pheasants and game birds into the air for all the country set to have their spot of jolly good fun.

DENNIS ESBERGER Lincoln.

This hunt acted unlawfully by failing to control its hounds.

I thought fox hunting was banned anyway?

Cruelty to our native wildlife needs to stop. Nobody cares about these "traditions" – fox hunting, hare coursing, badger baiting etc.

They'll be saying "lamping" is a historical sport next.

Jill Freeman Lincoln.

“Dudes, stay cool....these will be politically correct 21st Century hounds.... Baying is so last millennium.... New Age hounds are banned from killing foxes unless it's by accident.... Yeah, after they've been accidentally chasing it for 20 miles....:-/”

“I don't know which group of swivel-eyed, pro-hunting knuckle-draggers has parachuted you two contemptible apologists in here, but you can take your worthless propaganda and shove it where the sun doesn't shine. Hunting is banned because for once the intelligent got their way over the stupid. Deal with it.”

“I agree. Those nasty baying hounds could have done all sorts of bad acts. Hounds are really really very very nasty. They could have acttacked the children. I mean, its never happened in 300 years of hunting but this could have been the first time. Those hounds could have run infront of the milkman, causing him to swerve and crash into the village post office killing 16 people! It could of happened, but it didn't. Mr DENNIS ESBERGER from Lincoln, you have obviously never spent any time with hounds, unlike me. They are very gentle and they absolutely adore children!”

“Some very emotive words, Baying Hounds, rubbish, I suggest that the writer looks up the meaning of baying, also frightening little children, perhaps thats why when hounds are shown the small children are always invited in to make a fus of the hounds, like any other gog, the longer you make a fuss of them the happier they will be, this was just written by someone who does not approve of hunts in any form but just isn't honest enough to come out and say it, does he feel inferior to someone sitting on a horse as I can assure the writer that there is no need to be because the rider is just a normal person,”
