There is a kitchen to cater for large events, outdoor gardens, meeting rooms and a baby unit.

Marianne Overton, leader of the opposition at Lincolnshire County Council and the representative for Branston and Navenby, said: "Just from looking at the building people can see what an incredible achievement it is for Navenby to have a community centre like this.

"It really is a great venue and one of the most expensive village halls in Lincolnshire.

"I am so happy this has happened because the local people will really see the benefits.

"There will be so much for people to use and do there including fitness classes and sports which are great for promoting a healthy lifestyle.

"It really has had huge public support from the start. It is terrific news because previously it was just a derelict piece of land."

It includes a large hall as well that can hold more than 150 people and the building will also be home to Navenby Parish Council.

A large car park has been built and a host of fitness and dance classes will be held there.

The Lord Lieutenant of Lincolnshire, Tony Worth, opened the new complex.

Matt Jennings, 54, from Navenby, said: "The new centre is going to have so many facilities it can only be a good thing for the village.

"It is a fantastic project and one that I'm sure most people will be behind. It caters for people of all ages.

"It is long overdue for a village like Navenby because it is a village that is growing in size all the time.

"It is a much-needed asset and one that I'm sure will be used by many."
