Bad weather forces Vulcan bomber to pull out of six weekend air shows
THE Vulcan bomber was forced to pull out of six air shows in one weekend due to bad weather.
The problem-plagued bomber, which was formerly based at RAF Waddington, was unable to carry out displays at the events earlier this month due to poor visibility.

Robert Pleming, of the Vulcan To The Sky Trust, said: "Gutted is an appropriate word to describe the feeling of missing the opportunity to fly for almost 250,000 expectant people.
"Not only were we forced to let our fans down, but our cash flow suffered almost £50,000 lost profit."

“@Victor
The end of your original comment stated "it's time to pull the plug and put it into a museum" - as you're not contributing to the project you don't have a say in the matter.
How I choose to spend my money is my business, I've earned it. You're not bothered if this plane stays in the air so you don't pay, but you think your opinion about grounding it still has some weight.
If I told you your car was crap and you should scrap it - would you pay any attention? I should think not - so I wouldn't waste my breath offering the opinion in the first place.”

“Shep, if you have the money to give to a group who consistently fail to deliver on their promises, and who constantly let down the people who are shelling out huge sums of money on this project, then you carry on. If it was me, by now I'd be thinking these people are having a laugh at my expense and be putting my money into something that's a bit more reliable. As I said, how many airshows has this thing been booked to appear at and how many has it actually made ?”

“@ Victor
Why do you care how much it costs to keep it flying? It's not costing you anything at all unless you're one of the donors.
It's a simple equation. Some people want to keep it in the air. Those people are willing to raise the money to do just that. End of.
@ Nick
You have a terrible grasp of history. Ask the people who live in Stanley about the effect of the raid on the Argentine Army (or read Rowland White's book). Then see if you still think it was "useless".”

“I think the idea, karlos, is that the Vulcan profits from its appearances at air shows so that it relies less on donations. But I could be wrong, after all I'm only using logic and intelligence here.”

I THOUGHT IT WAS A CHARITY TO KEEP THE PLANE IN THE AIR,
HOW CAN IT HAVE A PROFIT, YET STILL PLEAD POVERTY FOR MORE DONATIONS?”

“While it might be an impressive aircraft to watch flying around and a lot of people seem to want to defend it to the death, maybe we should be looking at it's record. How much money has been ploughed into this thing, how many airshows is it booked to appear at and how many does it actually get to ?
I don't know the people involved, but it sounds like they're on a good crack. Some are getting paid a lot of money to work on an aircraft that very rarely leaves the ground. I'd say it's time to pull the plug and put it into a museum.”
