WARNING- GRAPHIC IMAGE: Hammer embedded in man’s skull- Lincoln attempted murder investigation launched
The photograph further down this article was taken moments after a 21-year-old man was attacked with a claw hammer in Lincoln city centre.
The victim sustained serious injuries in the alleged assault in Hungate, near Revolution Bar, at about 12.50am on Sunday.
The man, from Scunthorpe, was rushed to Lincoln County Hospital with a head injury and transferred to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, in Sheffield.

Police say he has undergone surgery and his condition is described as stable.
Detective Inspector Katrina Morton, of Lincoln CID, is appealing for witnesses or anyone with any information about the incident to contact her.
