A PIECE of publicly owned land still remains undeveloped after the building which was once there was demolished last year.

Louth Mayor, Jill Makinson-Sanders has raised her concerns again about the Wallis House site behind the Meridian Leisure Centre.

  1. STILL VACANT: The land of the former Wallis House in Louth, which is now demolished, still remains vacant.

STILL VACANT: The land of the former Wallis House in Louth, which is now demolished, still remains vacant.

The former care home owned by Lincolnshire County Council stood empty since it was vacated in 2008. It was finally demolished last year but nothing has yet happened to the land where it once was.

Mrs Makinson-Sanders said: "I just wonder what steps are being taken to market that land. We have a real shortage of social housing so why hasn't the county council got on with that site. No further progress has been made and it's a crying shame when we have a huge lack of social housing.

The council agreed to write to Lincolnshire County Council about this area of land.

Jim Hogg, property manager for Lincolnshire County Council, told the Target: "We are carrying out a review of the county council's land and property, including the former Wallis House site, which will establish how the land could be used in the future.

"No decision will be made until this review is complete, but if it is declared surplus it could be developed for a number of purposes."
