POLICE are asking people across Lincolnshire to be aware of a cold-caller claiming to be from an alarm company asking security questions about the home.

Lincolnshire Police were made aware by a concerned resident that the caller was asking various questions about home security such as whether or not the property was detached and whether or not the homeowner has a dog.

The salesman is then reported to have pressured the resident into allowing them to attend the home the next day on the pretext that the alarm was free and the resident would just need to pay for fitting.

The resident felt uneasy about the appointment so contacted the police. In the meantime the alarm company rang to confirm the appointment which gave the resident the opportunity to cancel.

Lincolnshire Police cannot verify the alarm company - they may well be a genuine company that have a pushy attitude towards sales but if anyone does get a sales call they ask that people be mindful of the information that they pass to them.

Police are also advising that when investing in security systems for the home or business it's not advisable to deal with cold callers or telesales enquiries and people should avoid doing doorstep or telephone business.

If you have serious doubts about the legality or sales techniques being employed by a company, you should contact Lincolnshire Trading Standards for advice on telephone number 01522 782 341.
