LINCOLN UNITED take a run of five games unbeaten into the First Qualifying Round of the FA Cup tomorrow (3pm) at Mansfield outfit Shirebrook Town.

John Wilkinson's side have notched up a string of three draws and two victories in recent weeks as their ascent up the Evo-Stik League First Division (South) and their progress through the FA Cup continues.

The Whites chief though is expecting his side to remain resolute and avoid complacency as they face a team ranked two divisions below them from Northern Counties East League Division One.

"The good form we're in can either be good for confidence or can create complacency – we'll be looking to avoid the latter," said Wilkinson.

"We are going to be playing in a competition renowned for it's upsets so we must be ready to match their desire, and then hopefully our ability will shine through.

"They won't be inferior on the day, the FA Cup is a great leveller and provides a high-stakes atmosphere."

Goalkeeper Craig Turner was controversially sent off in United's first FA Cup match of the season at home to Boston Town, and Turner will serve the one-match suspension for that game tomorrow.

And with long-serving keeper Mario Ziccardi now down the road at Lincoln Moorlands Railway, there had been worries Wilkinson would not find a replacement.

Although the Whites boss took pleasure in announcing the capture of former Lincoln City stopper Nicky Scaife.

"Craig Turner will be serving his suspension for the red card in the FA Cup game against Boston Town, so I've brought in an ex-Lincoln City youth goalkeeper Nicky Scaife," he said.

With the recent good form being shown at Ashby Avenue, any thoughts of a season of struggle and survival have been put on hold. Wilkinson though maintains that he always felt his team would prosper this campaign.

"I always thought we could be competitive this season," said Wilkinson.

"I'd be wrong to think we are relegation candidates now after the start we've made.

"You could've added 15-20 points to what we achieved last season and it would've put us in the mix for the play-offs – that's how tight the league is."

Lincoln Moorlands Railway are also in FA Cup action, as they host Gresley Rovers of the East Midlands Counties League Premier Division tomorrow (3pm).

Moorlands succumbed to their first defeat of the season last weekend away at Thackley in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

And with Gresley flying high in their division, they should provide a stern test for Chris Moyses' men.
