Missed chances cost Lincoln United victory on a difficult surface as they could only draw at bottom club Willenhall Town on Saturday.

Despite numerous openings, neither side was able to find the back of the net as the UniBond League Division One (South) clash ended goal-less.

"It was probably one of those games where if you would have scored one, you would have scored three or four, but we missed our chances," said manager John Wilkinson.

"Before half-time in particular, we missed a lot of chances, while brave defending and good goalkeeping also stopped us from taking the lead."

Despite creating chances in the first half, United were unable to play their flowing football due to the conditions with the surface holding a lot of water from heavy overnight rainfall.

On top of that, United were missing influential characters, like Ben Garrick (hamstring) and Ryan Porter, who injured his head in Tuesday's defeat to Goole.

Goalkeeper Mario Ziccardi was also ruled out.

"We had five or six players out, it was a battling performance, but that's all," he said.

"One player who was not missed as much as people would think was Mario, because Craig Turner has played really well between the sticks."
