"That is why breast awareness and self-checks are so vitally important.

"There is no right or wrong way to check your breasts but it is important to know your body so you can then recognise any subtle changes.

"The most important thing is not to be complacent.

"It is vitally important to remember that regardless of family history or genetic predisposition, everyone should be breast aware. It really is the most effective way of saving lives."

Mr Modi, who runs regular clinics, wants women to be aware of common signs of the disease and the best ways to check themselves.

Symptoms include painless lumps in the breast, changes in the size or shape of a breast, dimpling to the skin of the breast and thickened breast tissue.

"A self-check is recommended for women one week after start of menstruation or monthly for post-menopausal women," added Mr Modi.

"It is advised to check all parts of your breast, your armpits and up to your collarbone.

"Women are advised to know the symptoms of the disease, know what is normal for their bodies."
