Women put welfare at forefront of work in Sleaford
HOURS of time raising money for welfare schemes is given by members of the Sleaford and District branch of the Royal British Legion Women's Section.
Jenny Boyfield, 63, became a member of the women's section about 20-years-ago when her husband Henry, an ex-serviceman, joined the local branch of the RBL.
She has been a vice-chairman of the section as well as entertainment secretary.
Mrs Boyfield now chairs the meetings of the women's section which take place on the first Tuesday of each month at the Legionnaire's Club at 7.30pm.

She said: "After our meetings we hold a social event. These have included a Body Shop demonstration, flower arranging and a dance to raise money for the section's Purse. We also have day trips out and outings to the theatre are organised by the club.
"The Royal British Legion raises money for the Poppy Appeal and we raise it for the Purse but do help out the RBL."
The Purse is money raised by each club and used to help pay for breaks, provide support to the ex-servicemen, women, their families and their dependents. There are also other schemes including the Children's Welfare Scheme which provides assistance to ex-service persons' children in the form of grants.
Mrs Boyfield added: "All of the members are very supportive and they all bring different talents in to the branch. The branch, which has 23 members, also holds a garden party each year and a market stall."
The stall will be in the Market Place on July 7.
The women's section of the RBL is open to any women, ex-service or non-ex-service. Mrs Boyfield would like to encourage more people to join the group. The only criteria is the woman must be over the age of 16.
