Work starts on new Premier Inn hotel in Lincoln city centre
Work is under way on a £6.5 million city centre hotel, which will create 50 jobs.
Builders are on the site of Broadgate's former Save petrol station and O'Rourkes pub.

Work has begun at the Premier Inn site in Broadgate, Lincoln
The 130-room Premier Inn is due to open in the autumn.
More than 100 car parking spaces at the temporary surface car park on the site have been lost.
Hotel guests will use the neighbouring multi-storey as there is no parking included in the development.
The investment is by Whitbread PLC, the company behind the Premier Inn budget hotel chain.

“Good news for the city, and thankful it is not another pub or another boring Club for the immature. Well done Lincoln, a step forward for once.”

“Thank god they are not turning it into another Nightclub!! What with 'Home', 'Ritzy', 'Tokyo', 'Walkabout', to name just a few! (As well as the possible nightclub just down the road from Tokyo.)
At least the new Hotel will create permanent, full time jobs, and attract people to Lincoln, especially being not far from the Town Centre & Bailgate areas.
Students do get a lot of benefits over other people - and by benefits, i do not mean JSA etc - they do get "extras" and a lot of reduced prices for things. I am a full time mum of two, studying in an evening & get multiple massive reductions on things such as Virgin Media Broadband. But not everybody uses them, and not all students should be tarred with the same brush. I fail to see the link between a Hotel & Students anyway?”

“The multi-storey mentioned in the article is a council car park and not NCP.”

“"the uni students may as well use the premier inn because they are already taking up other places and they have free broadband / freephone/ free rent "
Of course they are. It was only last night that I tried to book a suite at the Hilton on the Brayford and they had to refuse me on the basis that the suites were over-ridden with Freshers having WiFi parties at the expense of the establishment.”

No they don't. However, don't let facts get in the way of your ranting, will you?”

“Exciting news - Premier Inn are a really good budget hotel chain, good prices and marketing which will continue to attract new visitors to the city. Those that are asking whether Lincoln needs more hotels then the answer is obviously "yes". Businesses such as Whitbread do a vast amount of research before deciding to invest huge sums into building a new hotel. I hope this encourages continued new development and attracting new brands to the city centre.”

“What are you talking about Hercules??? I don't think the University has any hotels does it?! And why would students be staying in hotels? Presumably any company spending the money on building a hotel has done its market research and is reasonably certain that it will have customers and be profitable.”
