A group of Lincoln City fans are preparing a welcome for Macclesfield supporters to pay tribute to former boss Keith Alexander and player Richard Butcher.

Former Lincoln City boss Alexander was manager of the Silkmen when he died in March 2010. Tragically, ex-Imp Butcher then died less than 12 months later having joined Macclesfield permanently from City in the summer of 2010.

Their deaths have brought the sets of fans together, with memorials placed at both clubs.

The two teams will meet for the first time at Sincil Bank since Butcher's death and a group of supporters who sit in the Stacey West Stand at The 12th Imp Sincil Bank Stadium have planned a welcome for the travelling Macclesfield fans.

"A little group of us have spent the past two weeks creating flags and banners. We want to welcome the Macclesfield fans in a memorable way, which we feel would make both Keith and Richard's memory live on," said City supporter Jake Newson.

"We'll also be wearing yellow football socks, which was something Keith was remembered for.

"We hope others will join us in pulling on a pair in his and Butcher's memory. It would be great if everyone in the ground could join in."
