Young Boston chef Scott Brackenbury lands job at Gordon Ramsay's Maze Restaurant
A YOUNG budding chef who attended Boston College has secured a job at top chef Gordon Ramsay’s Maze Restaurant in Mayfair, London.
Scott Brackenbury had always wanted a career in the catering industry, so after finishing his GCSEs at Haven High School he decided to apply for a catering apprenticeship at Boston College’s restaurant.
With just two days’ notice, Scott was asked to attend a trial day at Maze, which consisted of a 16-and-a-half hour day spent in the kitchen, cooking and serving throughout both the lunchtime and evening services.
He was asked to demonstrate his passion for cooking, utilising his knife skills for prepping, presentation skills when plating up dishes and even making a lemon tart that was later served to customers.

At just 17, Scott really impressed the staff and was offered the role of Commis Chef just halfway through the day, a decision that is usually reserved until a few days of reflection, but it was obviously a decision which all at Maze were confident in making after seeing Scott in action.
Scott said: “I am really exciting but a bit nervous too. I always knew I wanted to go down to London and I’m really looking forward to learning lots more and hopefully progressing within the restaurant.”
Boston College recruit all their tutors from the industry so it meant Scott had learnt all the skills he needed to further his career from top chefs who had been there themselves. It also meant he could easily adapt to the strict and pressured environment of working in a professional kitchen, and was aware of the high standards expected from a fine-dining restaurant.
Scott follows in the footsteps of another former Boston College student Jason Atherton, who was Gordon Ramsay’s executive chef and the one who launched Maze when it first opened in 2005. Jason has since left the group and launched his own restaurant company across the globe.
