A showcase of young musical talent is returning to Lincoln's Drill Hall.

The YoungPlugged event is an acoustic open mic night for 13-19 year-old performers which began in 2007.

There have so far been five nights and the next night is on Friday, September 18 following an 11-month break.

YoungPlugged is the brainchild of teenagers Molly Lyon, 16, a pupil at Lincoln Minster School, and former Priory Academy LSST student Hannah Blackwell, 18, who is now on a gap year.

Molly said the idea was born to give young performers a venue where they were not barred because of their age.

"It's all about young local talent and giving people the opportunity to perform live," said Molly, a singer who lives in West Parade, Lincoln.

"The forthcoming night will be a real back to basics evening where we want different acts to come along, sign in, and each perform a 10-minute spot.

"There has been a bit of a rumour that this may be the last one because Hannah was due to go to university, but now she is taking a year off.

"I would certainly like to do more – I wouldn't want it to end."

The last YoungPlugged night was in October last year and featured professional singer-songwriter Jeremy Warmsley in the line-up.
