Third attempt launched to protect Lincolnshire sausages from imitations
Butchers have unanimously voted to launch a bid to protect the integrity of Lincolnshire sausages through clever labelling.
In October, Defra turned down Lincolnshire Sausage Association's appeal against its decision to reject an application for Protected Geographical Indication for Lincolnshire sausages.

New bid launched to protect Lincolnshire sausages
Success would have meant only sausages made in Lincolnshire could carry the moniker but Government said there were many variations of Lincolnshire sausage in Britain.
Campaigners now want the Government's backing to protect the Lincolnshire sausage with labelling bearing the Traditional Lincolnshire Sausage name.

“DavidSLincoln "The only people that care are die hard yellowbellys and meat producers." - - - Strange I might now live in Lincolnshire, but I come from West Yorkshire, and the most I've had to do with Lincolshire Sausages is enjoying eating the real (though slightly expensive), thing. So seeing as I am neither Yellowbelly or meat producer why am I one of the ones who think they should be protected?”

“No matter what you name a product the consumer will decide whether they purchase what ever product for taste or because it maybe what they can afford,Price will always dictate what people will and will not buy but the flavour of the Lincolnshire sausage differs depending on where you purchase the item but the best place by far as got to be from a Real butcher and not from supermarkets .All i can say is real Lincolnshire sausage is a pure delight .”

“Brilliant Idea Roadsource. What your forgetting is that the UK public dont give a damn. The only people that care are die hard yellowbellys and meat producers. This sausage debacle surely will have to die a death at some point. I hope.”

“I understood that Lincolnshire sausage uses a different recipe at most butchers. They are nice sausages but can be expensive at butchers, the Lincolnshire style sausages like Cumberland style sausages can be purchased a lot cheaper and are a change from things like walls sausages and many others similar, the real thing does taste better for those who can afford them.”

“"Because any other manufacturer could still label and sell their sausages as Traditional Lincolnshire Sausages"
Yes, but because of the associated advertising campaign it would be well known that the only Lincolnshire sausage made in Lincolnshire would be branded in a particular way.”

“Because any other manufacturer could still label and sell their sausages as Traditional Lincolnshire Sausages. All that would be copyrighted is the brand and not the product.”

“"Campaigners now want the Government's backing to protect the Lincolnshire sausage with labelling bearing the Traditional Lincolnshire Sausage name"
Why dont you campaigners just forget the government and copyright a set of graphic designs or trademarks yourselves and launch an advertising campaign stating that only sausages bearing these trademarks are the only genuine Lincolnshire Sausages made within the County of Lincolnshire. You can then give only approved farmers and butchers the right to use the trademarks and protect the product. This is the way that very famous cola company ensures that when you buy their product it is "the real thing".”

“'but Government said there were many variations of Lincolnshire sausage in Britain' - - - Which is exactly the reason why genuine Lincolnshire sausages should be protected!”
