RSPB Blacktoft Sands

RSPB Blacktoft Sands nature reserve is a natural gem, nestling on the edge of the Humber estuary just 8 miles from the busy port of Goole in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

The reserve contains an intertidal reedbed which is the largest in England and is an internationally important site for breeding birds such as marsh harrier and the rare bittern.

A wonderful variety of other wildlife also makes its home at Blacktoft Sands such as hares and water voles.

In spring, watch elegant avocets on our pools. Later in summer, look out for butterflies and dragonflies whizzing past as you stroll along our trails. Each season is different, and with every visit, you will spot something new.

Blacktoft Sands is the perfect place for a relaxing encounter with nature. We have six hides and one viewing screen which are linked by a 1.2km long nature trail which is flat making it accessible by wheelchairs and pushchairs. We also have refreshment facilities and a picnic area making the reserve great for family days out.

The information centre is open daily from 9am to 4pm, where our knowledgeable staff will be on hand to help you make the most of your visit.
