Take councillor's message with a pinch of salt

Wednesday, January 06, 2010, 08:00

I AM responding to Cllr Richard Austin's New Year message in the Target on December 30.

See what he has to say to us all with my added facts.

"Turn around its performances." What he means is getting Boston back to where we were when his party got elected two-and-a-half years ago due to mismanagement.

To stay the same as we are would be an achievement for him. Also getting better must be an easy task.

"Balanced budget." I read they were poor in the past and had to get better so he is only doing what he has to do in a Government report.

"Economic downturn." A zero rate did not help but a few brownie points gained.

"Traffic flow." How he takes full credit for this is beyond belief. It was the many letters in the Target and the work of the BBPG that got the lights switched off.

"The new bus service." He had nothing to do with it. He just rubber stamped it when LCC told him Boston was having it. He backed LCC when there was a better half hour service without going through the precinct.

"Toilets." Is to class bringing the toilets up to normal standards of hygiene an achievement? I would call it a morale necessity. But what was the cost? They closed another toilet and I understand one has got to pay to use it.

"Sporting and cost." What is the cost of the PRSA and all the trouble with the swimming bodies? So is that an achievement?

"Long awaited road scheme." He was totally against it before he was elected. Now LCC has told us we are having it he has changed his mind and wants credit for it.

"Coastal report." If it is like the past there will be nothing in it for Boston.

So Cllr Austin, we take your message with a pinch of salt. Full of political spin like we had when you called yourselves the Boston Bypass Independents party. What bypass?

Mr B J Norton Wyberton West Road, Boston
