The business of the year award is presented to the company or institution which finds itself at the heart of its community serving the residents around it.

Among those nominated this year is Hill Holt Wood, in Norton Disney, for its efforts in engaging North Kesteven's young people who have been marginalised from society.

Also nominated is The Plough Inn in Swinderby.

Owners Helen and Graham Roe have been put forward for their consistent support and hosting of fun days, talent shows and carol concerts, which both raise large sums of money for charity while bringing the local community together.

And finally, RAF College Cranwell has also picked up a nomination for not only continuing to raise money for local charities, but also for its commitment to supporting the community in sport, music and education.

Wing commander Andrew 'Sandy' Sandilands said: "We're very proud to be nominated and enjoy a very close working relationship with the council.

"We like to ensure we work closely with the local people and make our output as close as we can to work the community needs.

"We've worked recently with Lincolnshire County Council and NKDC on the Armed Forces community covenant and we see ourselves as a key partner of the authority through sports, education, charity."
