Top cakes in tough competition as Lincoln College hosts Bake Off for Red Nose Day
On Friday, 15th March, Lincoln College in partnership with LEAP hosted a Bake Off Competition to raise money for Comic Relief.
Four teams of bakers took part in the competition, representing Lincoln College, LEAP, Nat West and Lindum Group. They met together at the college's Sessions Restaurant kitchen to bake their best cakes and cupcakes. Juicy cherries and strawberries, snow-white icing, freshly whipped cream and the aroma of vanilla and chocolate made the final results irresistible to all present.
The tough competition was judged by Karl McCartney, Member of Parliament for the City of Lincoln, John Allen, Lincoln College Principal, Herman Kok, Finance Director at Lindum and Garry Wilkinson, Senior Relationships Manager at NatWest, who were presented with the final creations, and invited guests to taste and vote.
Lincoln College team, the Sugar Kanes, won the Golden Taste Award beating extremely competitive teams from LEAP, Nat West and Lindum Group. The Golden Presentation Award was achieved by the Lindum Group team, Truly Scrumptious, who created a beautiful cake decorated with fruit.

Claire Hoad, Lincoln College apprentice and a team member of the Sugar Kanes said, "I participated in the Bake Off as I knew it would be a fun way to raise money by doing something I enjoy. It was an exciting opportunity to meet with others from different companies and compete against them for a good cause. I had a really good time and would definitely volunteer to do something similar again."
Money was raised through donations for voting, and cup cakes that were also baked by the teams were sold with all proceeds going to the charity. The bake off managed to raise more than £140 for Comic Relief.
