The cars were close to houses, and police have described how one fire was so close the heat cracked a kitchen window.
Two cars have been left very badly damaged by the arson attack, and the other four left with less serious damage.
Police say it is unclear how the fires were started at this stage, but believe they were started deliberately.
Six cars were set alight in total, including two Vauxhall Astras, a Volkswagen Polo, a Ford Fiesta, and a BMW and one unnamed car.
A police spokesman said: "This potentially could have easily spread to residential properties and endangered life.
"It is a very serious offence.
"We have done a leaflet drop of more than 250 leaflets in the area, and we are appealing for anyone who saw any suspicious activity to get in touch as soon as possible via the 101 non emergency number."
Police believe one car was set on fire and left totally burnt out, letting the fire also spread to two other cars nearby.
Another two around the corner in separate locations were also set on fire.
A sixth car, which police believe was also the target of arsonists, was found later on.
Anyone who saw anything suspicious can call police on 101 quoting incident number 25 of October 1, or call Crimestoppers Anonymously on 0800 555 111.
