Six county MPs lobby Home Secretary over £3 million police budget increase
THE Home Secretary has met a delegation of Lincolnshire MPs and police chiefs about funding cuts to the county's police force.
The meeting with Home Secretary Theresa May was called in a bid to make her "personally aware" of the realities of Lincolnshire Police's budget deficits.
According to Lincoln MP Karl McCartney, one of six MPs from the county to travel to Westminster, the idea is to change how the county's funding needs are judged, a change that could see almost £3 million added to the budget.
Chairman of Lincolnshire Police Authority Barry Young called the meeting "significant".
He said: "I left the meeting with the feeling that, at long last, we are dealing with a Home Secretary who does actually listen and it was particularly gratifying that she acknowledged that we had certainly made our case.
"We are already losers under the current funding formula, which has yet to be fully applied as designed. Had it been so, we would be receiving £2.6 million more in 2010-11."
As previously reported in the Echo, Lincolnshire Police already receives less general grant per head of population, meaning fewer police officers for people living the county than virtually anywhere else in the UK.
It is believed this is the first time that a Secretary of State has agreed to discuss Lincolnshire Police's funding problems in person.
The lobbying group comes after the Echo reported in May how the Police Authority would receive £1 million less in 2010-11 than originally promised.

“I'd say it's a combination of general dissatisfaction with decades of Labservative crap, combined with the innate fear of not voting for Labour/Tory in case the Tories/Labour get in. This is why we should forget about the proposed change to the AV voting system and go fully for PR. But you know how it is... turkeys... Christmas... etc.”

“"Perhaps you should try running the phrase "2010 general election result" through your favourite internet search engine to find out exactly how the electorate felt about Labour's policies".
Obvioulsy quite a lot thought they were pretty good, as it resulted in a hung Parliarment, when in all reality The Conservative Party should have won by a landslide, bearing in mind the incompetent Gordon Brown and so called "New Labour" ran a pretty disasterous election campaign. Never has an opposition party failed so badly to grasp the nettle and win a substantial majority, that in all honesty was there for the taking. What went wrong and why did the electorate not trust David Cameron to deliver?”

“No, what you have done, like Emma, is show that she voted in line with Labour policy. You have not shown that this is at odds with what the electorate thought.”

“I'm sure I've been through this with you before, J, but quite simply she persistently failed to represent the views of her constituents in order that she could curry favour with her lords and masters in order to further her parliamentary and ministerial career.”

“Sneer, you make it sound like Lincoln is some hideous place. We have a new uni, an attractive water front, and is a fairly vibrant place to live (not that it is due to Merron, just saying). What did Merron do wrong? That is not rhetorical, what did she do wrong?”

“Firstly, Merron's 13 year tenure of trough-shovelling and blatant career-boosting at the expense of her constituents is something we should never forget. Secondly, does anyone have any idea what the hell Caring Conservative is dribbling on about?”

“Re give it a rest Emma - Quite possibly, but it depends on the context of the comment, I haven't got a crystal ball so cannot predict what topics will come up on this site, but I always try to give an honest opinion. Having read this site for some time, I think you do provide some good comments, even though I don't always agree with them.”
