The UK's first independent online cookery school directory – listing more than 150 schools searchable by region, occasion, course type and cost – has been launched.

Developed by Nick Wyke, a freelance food writer and digital food and drink editor, Looking to Cook also includes classes for anyone wanting to experiment further with local food – available at Just Lincolnshire in Stamford.

Nick says: "The nation's love for all things culinary continues to grow and people are keen to get hands-on experience and learn new techniques. There are hundreds of exciting new courses out there and Looking to Cook is the quickest way to find what you're looking for."

Foodies will find they can make Michelin-starred dishes at the home of Jean-Christophe Novelli and try their hand at bee keeping or foraging for wild food at Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall's River Cottage. For something a little different, hen parties might choose learning to make macaroons in the Forest of Dean. History enthusiasts can test antique equipment dating as far back as the 16th century and try their hand at cooking food from the Renaissance or Regency periods.

In-depth profiles of schools are added daily to the website, and there is also a news section featuring the latest cookery events, tips, competitions and discounts.
