Show me desire or I'll move you on, warns Boston United's Graham Drury

Ruthless Graham Drury says he is ready to wield the axe at Boston United unless his players up their game.

After picking up four points from his first two games in charge, Drury endured the first defeat of his reign at former club Corby Town on New Year's Day.

The Pilgrims were punished for a slack second half display at Steel Park where Paul Malone headed home in added time to make it 2-1.

And following a string of missed first half chances, Drury was disappointed with United's play in both boxes.

"You can play all the football in the world in the middle of park, but the key areas are the 18-yard boxes," said the former Stamford boss.

"I don't think we've got enough desire and are prepared to get a smack in the mouth or a bleeding nose.

"The ball has gone across their box from a corner and they've had time to clear the ball. No one is busting a gut to get their head on it.

"I've been told we've only scored one goal from set-pieces over the last 18 months.

"I know we're not the biggest side, but there is enough height in there.

"An old-fashioned number nine gets his nose broken and his eyes cut, and it's the same with a centre-half.

"You've got to be brave and put your head in where it hurts, but I'm afraid I haven't seen that in the side yet."

And Drury has warned, unless his side show that desire, he is ready to bring new players in.

Former Corby midfielder James Ozmen is believed to be on Drury's radar while the Boston boss is also looking to bring in a central defender.

At least one new signing could be in place for Saturday's Blue Square Bet North trip to Workington.

"I've told them, Graham Drury's got a job to do," he added.

"Trust me, it won't be Graham Drury getting finished, it will be them if they don't produces the performances.

"I'm not here to suffer fools gladly, I'm here to get results for Boston United.

"I'm very ruthless and the players need to know that."

Drury is demanding a response from his players at Workington.

"The result against Corby will make that trip a little bit longer," he said.

"But as soon as they get on that coach their minds have got to be on winning a game of football and forgetting what has just happened.

"Once we've finished a game of football, I forget about the result quickly because you can't change it.

"You brush it under the carpet, you don't look backwards.

"That's what they've got to do. They've got to get on that coach with the right attitude and turn this negative result into a positive."

Drury has pinpointed Gareth Arnison as Workington's chief threat.

"Arnison is a real threat coming in from the left-hand side," said the Pilgrims boss.

"We know their players and we know what we have to do to beat them. I've had positive results there before."
