“100 Mile Smile is a charity bike ride raising money for CLAPA (The Cleft Lip and Palate Association) taking place on 12th May 2012, the first day of Cleft Awareness Week.
Last year my brother and I completed the 'Cycle Coast to Coast 2011' - details of which are at http://tinyurl.com/7m49e3h This year we are hoping to raise more money for a different cause which came into our lives last year. My son Haydn was born on 8th February 2011 with a 'Unilateral Incomplete Cleft Lip', he was a healthy happy boy.
It did come as a shock to us that he had a cleft lip but we needed reassurance and support as we knew nothing about Cleft Lips. CLAPA was there to reassure us through their fantastic website and users who share success stories and pictures. We were reassured immediately.
The Sponsored Cycle Ride will take place from Nottingham, where our son had his repair operation in August 2011 to his hometown of Mablethorpe via Lincoln and Skegness. He was born in Mablethorpe (in an ambulance by side of road!). This will be a 100 mile cycle in 1 day. We are hoping others may want to join us for part or all of the journey on the day.
We are now using Text Donations as well, people can donate by texting PEXT84 £1 / £2 / £5 / £10 to 70070 or online by visiting http://tinyurl.com/6umtuqt
