“Like most supermarkets, Sainsbury's encourage people to buy more than they really need by employing various marketing tactics.
If they were serious about reducing waste they would stop tempting people with Buy One Get One Free deals and offer a 50% reduction on the price of one item.”

“I get annoyed by packs which say 'once opened consume within 2 days'. This is another way in which people are frightened into throwing food away.”

    None.”

“Whilst cleaning my cupboards out the other day I came across a jar of jam which had on its label, 'By appointment to His Majesty the King', tasted OK.”

“We need to freeze more makes me think that Sainsbury's have an excess in freezers and this is a ploy to get us to buy one.”

“Well it actually makes alot of sense as often we have food about to go off and we put it in the freezer for anotherday.
just need to be carefull about defrosting.
And yes it may mean buying another freezer but we should manage and rotate what we have in the freezer too. afterall there is a limit to the time food is recommended to be frozen.
makes good economic sense to me.”

“It doesn't help with the supermarkets stocking food with only a short date on it. You go for a weekly shop and can only find Bread etc with only 1 day's date.

Once you've had food poisoning, you will be very careful about eating outdated food!”

“Ian - you can't have looked hard enough. I always go to the back of the shelf and find produce with the longest 'best by', 'use by', dates, especially bread, and give them a squeeze for good measure too.”

“And that is why I don't shop at supermarkets - too many sweaty chavs pawing at the produce.”
