“Cant's see the point in charging UK hauliers but then being able to claim it back why charge UK hauliers in the first place isn't the reclaiming process going to create more paper shuffling and extra expense ?”

“The other reason why foreign lorries can do the job cheaper is because they have larger fuel tanks than our lorries enabling them to fill up abroad come to Britain drop their load pick up another load then make their way back to their home country without filling up in Britain with our dearer fuel”

“saddletramp2, the reason that UK drivers will have to pay then reclaim it is because, by law, the scheme cannot discriminate between UK-registered vehicles and vehicles from elsewhere in the EU.”

“I suppose another option would be to scrap Road Tax for HGV's and charge them per mile with a GPS type system (Similar to what was proposed for private cars) with rules that all HGV's using UK roads have the system installed. The cost of installing the system would likely have to be covered by the haulier which is a problem, but regular use commercial vehicles are in a better position to afford this than say a private motorist doing 10,000 miles a Year.”

“Almost all the goods you own or eaten have been on a truck at some point so charging by the mile only increases the price of the product to the consumer.Truck and bus diesel should now be in comparison to farm tractors and the like as farmers now spend more time on the roads than ever before using tractors to deliver their own goods to point of sale.If trucks have to pay full fuel duty on fuel then so should farmers or that could also be classed as discrimination.”

“Why is it discriminatory Barnaby_B? Our lorries already pay road tax which foreign ones don't, so that is discrimination against our wagons, or doesn't that count in this corrupt single market Europe lark?”
