Pupils and staff move into super-school

A souped-up school has finally opened for business.

The Chad Varah Primary School – a super-school formed from two smaller schools – had been on a temporary site for 12 months while a £2m facelift was carried out.

Now staff and pupils have moved in to a revamped site in Addison Drive – and are delighted with the results.

Chad Varah was formed from the merger of the former Myle Cross Junior School and St Giles Infant School.

Now major extensions have been added to the former St Giles site to create the new school.

And it has been hailed by headmistress Julie Harrison as the perfect space in which pupils can learn.

"The children deserve the best, and nothing less than the best will do," she said.

"While the building work took place, we could not be on this site so we used the Myle Cross site.

"That was actually very homely and we made it feel like home."

The 440 pupils at the school will benefit from a new sports hall, an IT suite and state-of-the-art classrooms.
