Rounders girls strip for calendar

Tuesday, November 04, 2008, 07:30

A cheeky group of Lincoln ladies are planning a Calendar Girls-style photoshoot to raise money for charity.

Members of the Next Round team in the Lincoln Ladies Rounders League have been posing for nearly-nude pictures to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Research.

They have stripped off their kit for the pictures, which have been carefully posed to protect the girls' modesty.

The shots feature a variety of activities from the game of rounders, such as batting, fielding and bowling.

They were inspired to create the calendar after team captain Naomi Davison's mum was diagnosed with breast cancer last year.

Member Elinor Smith (22), a nursing assistant, said that it was a great way to turn something so sad into a positive move.

"It was very sad news that Naomi's mum was ill, but we thought that rather than being downcast, we would do something to help other people who might be affected by cancer," said Miss Smith, of Carlton Boulevard in Lincoln.

"After a particularly lively meeting in the local pub it was decided that the best, most fun way to help would be to do an almost nude calendar," she added.

"It was a bit nerve-racking when we did the photo-shoot, because we were just wearing knickers outside in the open air, but after we started taking the photos we really got into it and it was just great fun."

None of the girls are fronting a particular month, as they all wanted to be involved with as many photos as possible, she said.

The women have been sponsored by 10 local businesses and the charity project has received discounted editing and printing rates from Ruddocks, in High Street, Lincoln.

All the proceeds from the £5 calendars will go to the Macmillan cancer charity.

They will be available to buy online from Friday, November 14 on www.lincsrounderscalender.webs.com or selected local sports clubs.
