County braced for Arctic weather

Saturday, November 22, 2008, 07:30

Lincolnshire is braced for an Arctic blast as sleet and snow are predicted to hit the county over the weekend.

Rain, sleet or snow was expected to spread east early tomorrow giving very icy conditions for a time and maximum temperatures of five degrees Celsius.

Lincolnshire's coastal areas could see snow showers begin today, along with eastern Scotland and Norfolk.

Forecasters say they will be followed by cold, windy weather, with showers, lasting until Wednesday.

Today was predicted to have a frosty start followed by dry and sunny conditions, albeit with fresh north or northwesterly winds and the possibility of a few showers. Temperatures will reach a maximum of five degrees Celsius, plunging to minus four overnight.

Lincolnshire County Council said all 43 of its road gritters were scheduled to be out last night and the situation monitored with a view to going out again tonight.

Widespread snowfall is expected across much of the UK on Sunday morning.
