I am a great Grandma, quite a large family, and can tell you why so many children do not have the free dinners they should be getting.
No child likes to be 'different' , and in most schools today , the free dinner child stands out.
There must be found a way to make sure the child entitled to free dinners get the same attention, or lack of it, as the paying child.
The child in the early teens are very conscious of being classed as the poor children, also their parents do not encourage them to ask...

My 'children' are retired now, but I can still remember when we were going through a bad time, my two girls refused to eat the school dinners, none of their friends had free dinners and they were not going to be the odd ones out.
