A grand new installment to the GTA phenomenon
Grand Theft Auto V. PS3 (reviewed), Xbox 360. Publisher: Rockstar Games. Rating: 10/10
Every installment of the GTA series so far has trumped its predecessors in every respect and become the must-have game for whichever systems it's released on – and GTA V is no exception.
The main storyline intertwines the fortunes of three guys who're looking for some action: a young repo man who wants to get ahead, a bored middle aged retired robber and a drug dealing hillbilly.
They meet one another by chance and forge an unlikely alliance in the sprawling city of Los Santos, which is bigger than any previous GTA map.

You control them one at a time in the usual GTA third person but when they're working together you can switch between them to take control of whoever's in the most critical situation. This successfully puts you right at the heart of the action for any given mission.
When you steal a car and drive it around there's an unprecedented 17 different radio stations to listen to with a combined total of 240 songs. There are also side missions galore and secrets aplenty to discover, all served up with the series' trademark dark sense of humour. There's even an online multiplayer mode for the first time.
Fifa 14. PS3 (reviewed), PS2, PSP, PS Vita, PS4 (Nov), Xbox 360, Xbox One (Nov), PC. Publisher: EA Sports. Rating: 9/10
Players know what to expect from Fifa – the very best fully licensed football game made by anyone anywhere. Fifa 14 continues this tradition up to a point but there are some new tweaks that won't be to everyone's liking.
A lot of effort has been put into making the players more human and that means they're more likely to make a mistake that you weren't expecting. It also means that they grab and shove one another, they jostle one another and the unpredictability of their shots and tackles adds an unparalleled sense of realism. If you like that sort of thing.
Some players prefer to think of Fifa as a chess game and the players as perfect pawns who always do precisely as they're told and those days are over.
Among the staggering number of ways to play the excellent Ultimate Team mode is back and as with Fifa 13 you can earn points to spend on classic kits for your team from the days of old, weird celebratory dances that your players can perform and licensed pieces of kit. Fifa 14 secures the series' position as being still the biggest and still the best.
