The typical university ice-breaker runs on Sunday evening, just giving new students a chance to drop their bags off before the fun begins. The carnival promises a great atmosphere with thrilling rides, a 25ft strong man bell, a coconut shy and all you can eat candy floss. The event is spread across the University of Lincoln campus.

The Engine Shed opens its doors and welcomes back legendary BBC Radio One DJ, Zane Lowe. His performance will offer a great introduction to the venue which runs regular events and student nights during the year.

Film
What: Film screenings in the Co-op Lecture Theatre
When: 7pm September 17- 21
For a more relaxing evening, the University of Lincoln are running daily films through the week. From Monday to Friday films will be: The Boat that Rocked, Missing, The Great Debaters, A Beautiful Mind and Castaway.

Freshers' Fayre
What: Fayre
When: 10am September 18
Freshers' Fayre is infamous for free stuff and from tins of beans and toilet rolls to slices of pizza and discount cards, there is always plenty to offer across the stalls. The event is held in the Engine Shed and you not only get a chance to see what the place looks like with the lights on but there are lots of useful stands to answer any questions about university life. It is tradition to go along with your new roommates.

Playzone
What: Children's fun for students
When: 6:30pm September 18
Playzone in Lincoln run regular student nights and if you feel a little too grown up being at university, the organised welcome week meet is a chance to let your hair down. Enjoying slides and ball-pools isn't what you may have expected but if you let yourself you'll have fun.

Volunteer and Jobshop
What: Open day for volunteering and Jobshop
When: Between10am and 3pm September 19
The University of Lincoln Jobshop and Volunteering centre opens its doors to anyone with questions about volunteering or finding part-time work whilst studying. Volunteering is popular in the first year as a great social opportunity and chance to settle into the city and also to score some good CV points early on. A lot of local employers take on students and they go through the university Jobshop, the best place to look for work.
Live Music
What: Open mike night

Open mike night held regularly at the Jolly Brewer pub in the centre of Lincoln. Whichever side of the microphone you prefer to stand it is a great evening, providing local, live entertainment.
Societies and groups Fayre
What: Sign up to university clubs
When: 10am September 20
The list of groups and societies at university are endless from American Football to Anime. Sports societies have regular training sessions and matches, competing against other universities and local teams. They also offer a strong social side with regular society nights out and activities. Other societies range from juggling to gaming and offer a chance to mix with like-minded people who you share an interest with. Again the focus is on the social side with regular meets and events.
Lincoln Cathedral
What: Lincoln Cathedral roof tour
When: 10:30am September 21
Lincoln is famous for its Cathedral, not only does it overlook the entire city but it has also featured in numerous films including the Da Vinci Code, bringing Tom Hanks to the city for filming. The guided tour and rooftop view is a unique opportunity to see Lincoln from another perspective.
Disco
What: Superfunk Roller Disco
When: 8pm September 21
Sweatbands and leg warmers will perhaps be your first introduction to the student tradition of fancy dress. Outfits are executed to revive the retro past-time of the roller disco with 70's and 80s disco hits and anthems in the Engine Shed.
