The high street units will still be empty
EVERY week we hear about the proposed, now approved, link road and how it, Tesco and the Bass Maltings, will regenerate the town but will it...?
Yes, we will be able to get around the town in five minutes but that's all. The High Street units will still be empty because they are too small for large, chain stores.
To my knowledge no one has considered how Tesco will be serviced - well there is only one Grantham Road. At the very least 35 HGVs, up to 44 tonne, will supply Tesco 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They won't come down Mareham Lane - the parking on the bend is an accident waiting to happen. They can't come down the bypass and Boston Road as the bridge is low and they won't come down Carre Street as it will be chaos.
Do the people who live on or near Grantham Road want this much HGV traffic a week? If you add it to Aldi, The Spar, Moy Park and Mountains you may be looking at about 90 or more goods vehicles per week and if they develop large retail units in Bass Maltings for the likes of Next etc... Just add a few more...
