Our identity is both historic and modern
WE don't agree on much ... but we do agree; Boston is brilliant...
Political activists from a number of Boston's mainstream political parties have met to discuss ways of improving Boston's reputation and to dispel the negativity and myth that the only story Boston has is migration and the challenges it creates.
We want to spread the word that Boston has an identity both historic and modern, a vibrant busy town with a burgeoning twice weekly market and a wide variety of shops, from department stores and national chains to small unusual and independant shops and cafes and a varied and relevant history.
In fact Boston has many stories of international and historical significance. In the 13th century Boston was a Hansa Port, trading steel, wool, salt and grain with Hanseatic League Baltic Ports across Europe and Scandinavia. The annual fair attracted their merchants as well as from all over England. This made Boston one of the wealthiest towns in England , able to build the world-famous St. Botolph's Church and the fine medieval Guildhall.

More recently in the 17th century Bostonians' spirit of adventure helped to shape what became known as the "New World". Bostonians' independent spirit gave rise to the desire to achieve a new life with religious freedom. In 1630 Puritans from St. Botolph's Church were instrumental in establishing a major Colony in the New World which they named 'Boston', now America's second city.
An amusing and light hearted example of Boston's global identity exists with the recent news coverage of five publicly spirited Bostonian lads straightening out a bent cycle station and found themselves being interviewed by the world's media. Would this have happened if the lads hadn't come from Boston?
Activists from The Liberal Democrats, Labour and Conservative parties have come together to promote Boston and its strong links with Enterprise, Independence and Adventure. Boston is not simply a town seen as having problems; it is a town with strengths in its past which give it strength and resilience for the future.
