“Drivers who purchase a high performance,powered vehicle should by law need an upgrade to their licence with training and test at the end to prove they are mentally,physically.and capable of handling such a vehicle the same as new drivers having to upgrade to 7.5 ton trucks,to tow trailer,caravans and the same as motorcyclists who need to pass tests to upgrade to higher powered bikes.Many people try to run before they can walk and by making these drivers take an upgrade to their licence the roads might be a safer place. Bus and lorry drivers cant swap jobs unless they have the licence for the appropriate vehicle although the chassis and weight limits are almost identical so car drivers should not be able to either.”

“How ironic! It's usually motorbikes overtaking cars at these kinds of speeds on this stretch of road! My guess is that the car driver saw the motorbikes and decided that he was going to have a little play, pitching his toy up against high powered motorcycles. A perfect stereo-type,,take a 30 something male, his penis extension, fully kitted with naff' personalised number plate, a female riding shot-gun to impress, this was some-what inevitable.

Now whilst I do not agree that the 'speed kills' tag line of the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership, is correct, I feel that the facts of this incident are transparant and should have resulted in a more severe sentence.

Perhaps we ought to go down a similar route to the new motorcycle testing procedure, governing the engine output size dependant on age and exerience? I am sure that if we were operating system where-by we continuously add onto our driving license benefits, i.e engine size/performance, this would lead to us having a more precious view of our document. Perhaps this would also go some way towards reducing insurance premiums?

We dont, which is what annoys most motorists. I would say that in the situation shown on film it was a poor driving decision but then coming from that direction he had probably had to follow them for 20 miles. A pair of glasses wouldnt go amiss either if he couldnt see the van at that distance.”

Driving at that speed where there are pedestrians walking (especially children who could suddenly run out) might be a start. Or maybe overtaking a learner motorcyclist who could make an unexpected move due to inexperience. Or even putting the motorcyclists in danger by braking suddenly in front of them for no reason other than to attempt to avoid being caught driving too fast.”

“All I'm saying is, people will always break the speed limit, whether its by 10 mph (which you think is acceptable for some reason) or 53mph (which you don't think is acceptable)
We're not going to change that, all we can do, is put speed cameras and guns up around the country, and make money from those people. Which is whats happened here.

Where do you draw the line between "Safe" speeding, and reckless driving, especially when the person in question is driving a high performance car, capable of breaking from 112mph to 23 so quickly.

Peeunit, I have broken the speed limit: 80 on the motorway, 35 in a 30 zone, but I have never broken the speed limit by 53 mph.

People this reckless should never be allowed back on the road. I think he got off lightly.”

“Peeunit - it's not being insular. This type of driving kills people. He was lucky and other people on that road in Market Rasen were also lucky. I would also like to have made some 'insular comments about another story - "Louth man caused six fractures to seven-week-old daughter while changing her" but it is not open to comment.”
