£123k to attract bus passengers

Solar-powered lighting would be used to brighten up bus stops while kerbs would be raised to ease access for parents with prams and wheelchair users.
The moves are part of a £123,000 cash injection Lincolnshire County Council wants to give to a bus route running from the outskirts of Lincoln to rural areas.
The number 15 Stagecoach service, which runs between Saxilby in the north-west and Cherry Willingham in the east, is the only route in the Lincoln area yet to benefit from refurbishments.
The changes would see every bus stop updated, and there are hopes that more people might now decide to ditch their cars in favour of public transport.
Councillor Ian Fleetwood, whose ward would benefit from the changes, said: "I know many people who just don't get their car out because of the cost of parking and fuel.
"This will hopefully make it easier to get the bus."
Last Friday the county council unveiled a final route for a long-awaited bypass to the east of Lincoln in a bid to tackle city congestion.
But work to build the road is unlikely to begin before 2011, putting more pressure on public transport bosses to get people out of their cars in the short-term.
County councillors will meet to discuss the plans at County Offices on Thursday.
