Jake Alexander Johnson (19) appeared at Lincoln Magistrates Court this morning accused of attempted murder on Sunday, August 24.
Johnson, whose hands were bandaged, spoke only to confirm his name, age and address during the short hearing.
Magistrates remanded him in custody to appear at Lincoln Crown Court on Tuesday, September 2.
Johnson, of Grimsby, was arrested and charged with attempted murder after a 15-year-old girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was admitted to Scunthorpe General Hospital with serious burns to her face and upper body.
She was transferred to a specialist unit at Newcastle General Hospital, where police say her condition remains critical.
A police investigation began after an incident in a Ford Transit van parked near Brandy Wharf in Waddingham, north of Lincoln, in the early hours of Sunday.
Johnson's solicitor Gordon Holt made no application for bail.
