Breaking news: Bridge drama brings traffic chaos

Traffic was brought to a standstill today when a man threatened to throw himself off a footbridge in the centre of Lincoln.
 
The man, dressed all in black, positioned himself in the centre of the bridge over Broadgate at around 4.30pm on Monday.
 
Police closed the road at both ends while negotiators talked to him.
 
Vehicles heading south were diverted down Monks Road, while those trying to head north were diverted  past the Siemens building.

Other routes throughout the city ground to a halt as traffic built up, affecting thousands of rush hour drivers.

 
The man was led away from the footbridge at 5.50pm and the road was reopened.
