Chief bridesmaid was a real dog...

Wednesday, August 27, 2008, 07:30

BRIDE Kara Briggs had a very unusual chief bridesmaid at her Lincolnshire wedding – her pet German shepherd cross dog.

Four-year-old Roxy wore purple ribbons around her paws and throat and carried the wedding rings in a drawstring bag around her neck.

And Kara and new husband Steven say she was on best behaviour throughout the ceremony at St Michael and All Angels' Church in Thorpe-on-the-Hill, near Lincoln.

Mr and Mrs Briggs, of Doddington Park, Lincoln, explained that they regarded Roxy, who is a rescue dog, as their 'baby'.

It was Mrs Briggs' mum Karen Gamblin, from North Hykeham, who had the idea of Roxy being one of the bridesmaids.

And when the couple put the suggestion to  vicar the Reverend George Goulby they were amazed and delighted when he agreed – provided Roxy was kept on a lead and did not disgrace herself on the church carpet.

"It was so lovely for Kara and me to have Roxy with us on our special day," Mr Briggs said.

"She really is our 'man's best friend'."
