Cousin to run half marathon in memory of tragic teen
Ryan Hides, 17, died after his beloved Piaggio scooter was in collision with a car in Dunholme Road, Scothern, on September 15, 2008.
His mum Joanne Green, paid tribute to her son in the Echo, along with dozens of friends and family members who inundated the website.
It devastated Ryan's close-knit family and Mrs Green says although things are just starting to get a little easier, she will never recover from her son's untimely death.
Now, Ryan's cousin Sorelle Fox, 37, is training to run her first ever half marathon near San Miguel de Salinas near Mercia, in south east Spain.
The former William Farr pupil – who moved to the area of Spain with her family five years ago – will donate all the funds to the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.
"It's been hard dealing with Ryan's death, because we are such a close family and I'm out here," she said, talking to the Echo from her Spanish home.
"When I was driving to work I would think about him and get upset. It made me want to do something about it."
Her husband Andy promptly signed them up to the Torrevieja Half Marathon, for which they have been training since October last year.
Sorelle Fox, left, with her cousin Ryan Hides, who was killed in an accident.
