Sign up to save the Shed

Monday, August 25, 2008, 00:07

Students at the University of Lincoln have signed a petition to save their favourite haunt.

The Shed bar, on the Brayford campus at the university, is on the market for offers after 10 years at the heart of student activity in the city.

But nearly 1,000 students have joined a Facebook group and as of yesterday 295 had signed an online petition to help save the Shed.

It reads: "The Shed has been placed up for sale and it looks likely that it'll be bought by the university and turned into offices or a bar with Tower Bar-style prices."

Manager of the bar Rebecca Linney said she was selling the lease as she wants to spend more time with her family.

"It is great that people are passionate about the building being a pub and in my opinion the students do need another pub," she said.

The business is on the market with Banks Long and Co and offers are in the region of £100,000 with the estimated turnover being in excess off £500,000 up to the end of December – a 17.28 per cent increase on last year.
