Jennifer: Paul's greener than me

Jennifer Connelly has said her husband, actor Paul Bettany, is much better at being environmentally friendly than she is.

Jennifer appears alongside Keanu Reeves in eco-blockbuster The Day The Earth Stood Still and does her bit for the environment in real life.

"We drive around in a Prius, we recycle and we use energy-saving light bulbs. Although Paul I have to confess is better at it than I am. He always berates me if I forget and leave a light on in the kitchen and goes and shuts it off," she said.

But she explained that the film, in which she stars as an astrobiologist, is not 'preachy' in its message.

"It's about aggression, greed and selfishness, and the fact that we can't keep treating each other like this and treating the planet like this. It's unsustainable."

"I think while you're watching it, you're not feeling like you're watching an issue film or you're being preached to. But you walk out and it's still provocative," she said.

And it seems Jennifer was diligent in her research for the role.

"I didn't really know anything about astro-biology before I started so I contacted a couple of professors at Princeton University, who probably thought 'Who is this person, sending random emails and just showing up asking questions?' I bought a whole stack of books, which I read at the time. But now they're all just on a shelf in my house," she said.
