Keith Alexander's legacy will live on

The family of Keith Alexander has vowed to ensure the legacy of the Imps legend will live on in Lincoln.

Speaking to the Echo, Mr Alexander's brother Delroy and sister Nova said they had been overwhelmed by the response of Lincoln City supporters and county residents following the death of the ex-Imps boss on March 3, aged 53.

High profile figures from the world of football, including Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill, were joined by more than 2,000 mourners at Lincoln Cathedral on Monday to remember the life of Mr Alexander.

Nova, 52, said: "Keith would have been so humbled by everything going on since his death.

"The day of the funeral is still a blur and I don't remember too much. To have the supporters and all the people there just took my breath away and I couldn't keep the tears away. But they were happy tears.

"Keith had a great send off and he would have been laughing all the way. It was one of those occasions you will never forget. He was loved and will continue to be loved."

Mr Alexander's family say they are hoping to expand the work of his football foundation, based in the Caribbean island of St Lucia, to help improve the lives of Lincoln youngsters.

The ex-City gaffer played three times for St Lucia during his career, after qualifying through his parents nationality, and spent a large period of his life living in Lincolnshire.

He played for the Imps before managing them on two separate occasions, culminating in a memorable and successful four year spell between 2002 and 2006.

In 2008, Mr Alexander and his family formed the Sacred Sports Foundation to help educate and encourage deprived St Lucian youngsters by using football.

Delroy said talks had already started between Lincoln City and Mr Alexander's last club, Macclesfield Town, to develop plans to preserve the memory of "Big Keith".
