Plan Z chosen for city eastern bypass

The dual carriageway – designed to relieve the congestion choking the city – will cut a swathe through green fields.
It will sweep further to the east than previously planned to make space for up to 10,000 new homes.
Highways officers say they have selected the line which has the backing of both residents and councils and is the most likely to get Government funding.
It is the so-called Line Z which would carry vehicles from the A15 Wragby Road to the A15 just south of Bracebridge Heath.
The cost of the project is currently projected at £116m – almost double the figure quoted three years ago.
The route has emerged as the front runner out of three possible lines for the long-awaited bypass.
It would provide the second link in the bypass chain which will, it is hoped, eventually encircle the entire city of Lincoln.
It has also got the backing of drivers, who are desperate for some form of traffic relief.
Alex Alcock (34), a sales rep from Cherry Willingham, near Lincoln, commutes to his company in North Hykeham and travels 45,000 miles around Lincolnshire.
"It currently takes me half an hour to travel 10 miles to work and the traffic in Lincoln is getting worse," he said.
Line Z sweeps further to the east between the B1190 Washingborough Road to the B1188 Lincoln Road, passing under Heighington Road on the way.
From Lincoln Road the route cuts through fields and connects with the A15 just south of Bracebridge Heath.
