Police plea for pet detectives

Owners are being asked to donate their animals to help bolster the ranks of the Lincolnshire Police dog section's sniffer squad.
The force is specifically on the lookout for springer spaniels, Labradors and border collies, either bitches or dogs, aged between one and two.
Working sniffer dogs are used by the force to perform duties such as searching for drugs and explosives.
Sergeant Paul Cragg, head of the Lincolnshire Police dog section, said the successful dogs would start training in October after all the dogs offered to the force had been assessed.
"We go to great lengths to try to ensure that the dog is right for us, and just as importantly, that working with the police is right for the dog," he said.
"All our dogs are well looked after and happy. If anyone donates a dog which passes our course, we will be happy for them to visit the dog school to see the dogs and how we work with them."
Lincolnshire Rescue Kennels manager Heidi Treble said that spaniels, Labradors and border collies were ideal for the job.
"The police usually go for those sorts of dogs because it is naturally in their breed to want to work at things and learn," she said.
Anyone who thinks their dog would be suitable for donation can contact the Lincolnshire Police dog section on (01522) 527924.
