Skydiver Kate celebrates gold medal jump

Friday, August 29, 2008, 07:30

A champion skydiver from Lincoln has scooped gold in a national competition following months of intense training.

Kate Morris, of Middlebrook Road, Lincoln, and her team Phobia were crowned the winners of the four-way formation category after attending the Skydiving National Championships in Hibaldstow, north Lincolnshire.

Now the 35-year-old is counting down the months until the team travel to the Czech Republic for the World Championships in 2009.

She said: "I first got into skydiving after doing a sponsored jump for the renal unit at Lincoln County Hospital. I loved it so much that I carried on and eventually managed to join Phobia after a team member left.

"Skydiving so often gets a bad name and people aren't always aware that we do this as a sport.

"We worked extremely hard to enable us to get gold and I will never forget the feeling being on the podium and receiving our medals."

Prior to the championships the team – which also includes Laura Batterbee, Graham Wilkins and Richard Head – trained every weekend for eight months.
