Supermarket expansion to create 150 jobs
The retailer wants to almost double the size of its current Tritton Road store.
It also plans to significantly increase the number of product lines it carries.
The announcement is being hailed by many as a significant boost to the local economy at a time jobs are being cut.
Just 24 hours earlier, it was announced that 300 posts could go in county hospitals.
The proposed development would see the car parks at Sainsbury's and the neighbouring retail park joined up to create a major new retail hub.
Now the supermarket is urging local people to snap up the jobs when they become available.
Ross Castle, Sainsbury's portfolio development manager, said: "This will enhance the shopping experience for our Lincoln customers."
But small traders warned that the expansion could force more shops out of business.
