Vote for the new Imps anthem

Tuesday, September 15, 2009, 06:30

A punk classic will compete against ska, pomp rock and a Latin instrumental song to be named the new Lincoln City FC anthem.

Voting starts today to select a new song to welcome the Imps players onto the hallowed Sincil Bank turf before kick-off.

The final shortlist contains 10 new tracks including Hysteria by Muse, Jeff Beck's version of Hi Ho Silver Lining, Right Here, Right Now by Fatboy Slim, Blitzkrieg Bop by The Ramones and Frankie Goes To Hollywood with Two Tribes.

Elvis Presley's The Wonder Of You also makes the grade along with emo favourites Paramore with Misery Business, In The City by Madness, much-used television theme tune Montagues and Capulets by Sergei Prokofiev plus Spanish Flea by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass.

The current track, The Dambusters March, had been labelled boring by some fans but is included after nominations called for it to remain.

Club DJ Wayne Casement said he wanted the chosen song to get both the players and fans pumped up before kick-off.

He said: "We want an uplifting song and not a boring one.

"We have spoken to the football club and when the team scores The Dambusters March will be played – fans can still do the airplane actions."

A poll will take place online at www.thisislincolnshire.co.uk and votes can be sent to the club via song@redimps.com or delivered by hand at the Sincil Bank stadium office. Voting will close on Monday, September 28.

The new anthem will receive its first airing on Tuesday, September 29, when the Imps host Notts County.

Imps fans are being urged to vote for a new anthem for the team.
